BOILERS, WHAT ARE THEY?

A boiler is a machine whose main function is to generate large amounts of water vapor.

The basic principle of operation of a boiler is through a chamber where combustion occurs with the help of combustion air and through a surface is carried out heat transfer.

The actual structure of the boiler depends on the type of the boiler as well as its purpose, however, the general parts can be named briefly:

 Burner: used to burn the fuel as its name suggests.

 Fireplace: houses the burner and combustion takes place inside

 Heat exchange tubes: the flow of heat from the gases to the water is made through its surface. Steam bubbles are also generated there.

 Liquid vapor separator: it is necessary to separate the drops of liquid water with the still hot gases, before feeding it to the boiler

 Chimney: It is the escape route of the gases generated by the combustion.

 Housing: contains the firebox and the heat exchange tube system.

 This previously mentioned steam is generated through heat transfer, at a constant pressure which is described by Fourier laws.

J=-K ∂T/∂x

Where J is the energy current density, K the constant of the material called as thermal conductivity, x is given by the position and T is the temperature.

Its history goes back to James Watt, who was that I observe in the nature of steam a power, both motor and economic to replace animal and manual force, this is how the first steps of its development began.

The first boilers had some design disadvantages, since the hot gases were in contact only with their base, and then there was heat waste, which ended up fluctuating towards areas of non-use. This is why the boilers began to be developed with tubes inside them to increase the contact area and thus improve heat transfer. James Watt was the first to create a machine that used the energy of steam and converted it into mechanical work (1776). Initially it was used to drive water pumps, vertical cylinders.

Later of the events described in this article the boilers were optimized until those that we know at the moment.

In the last years there has been a growth and demand of boilers for industrial use in different important verticals, like in the industrial processes of the production of food and drinks, as well as in industrial plants for the generation of electrical energy, in the oil industry, in the hotel industry in uses like laundry, kitchens and rooms, besides the increasing use in hospitals for the sterilization of medical material.

At Metalcast we are committed to the technological development of our country, which is why we contribute to the creation of boilers of the highest quality, by means of separators, spacers for tubes that can make the creation of different types of boilers possible.

As producers of custom-made metal parts, produced by the investment casting technique, we can participate in projects of parts with very different characteristics.

We invite you to contact our team to start your project right now.
